For Mike's birthday I surprised him by setting up our fish tank with water, rocks, fake plants and fish! He was really happy about it. So we had two fish. David Swimmer and Wette Midler. After a few days they started to get.......sad. They were always laying at the bottom of the tank and being weird. David Swimmer started to get white heads. They were nasty. But Wette was the one who was acting the most sick.
Mike went to a neighborhood pet store and found out the fish have Ick. It's the most common fish disease they said. Just put this medicine in the tank they said. 2 days of treatment and nothing. The fish were not showing any signs of improvement. I went back to the PetCo I purchased them. As I was waiting for someone to help me I took a look at the tank our fish came from. All the fish in that tank were being sad too! Laying on the ground or on rocks. And then I noticed a sign that read, "Fish under observation. Temporarily not for sale." Hmmm? I bought the fish there, from that tank, about a week ago. I didn't notice that sign there before. When the manager hurried back in from his smoke break to help me he told me that those fish have ick. Okay so that's consistent. He said that they have all had it for a while and the girl who sold me the fish shouldn't have. When I came in to buy them PetCo had run out of the
aforementioned "do not sell" signs. The shift changed and no one notified the night girl that all the goldfish were contaminated. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! The manager told me to bring them back and I could exchange them. Not sure what I can exchange them for since all the fish are equally diseased. Also, how do you exchange a pet? It's yours! We named those fish! We don't want different fish! We want our fish to be healthy. It's not in their policy to give free medicine.
Speaking of medicine. Mike looked up the medicine that he bought from the neighborhood pet shop and it's a dud. He found heaps of online reviews complaining that it doesn't do anything and it's a placebo.
Sure enough, this morning when I was at work I got the call. Wette Midler had died. An icky death. She died in her sleep? In her favorite place? I guess it was her time? She was loved. For a week.

RIP Wette Midler
